Step A - Checklist
The first section of the setup requires you to check to see if dialup networking is installed on your computer. You can do this by firstly clicking on my computer(windows 95/98) or in windows ME click on your start menu then setup menu and see if network and dialup connection is present. If you have dialup networking proceed to step C if not go to step B.
Step B - Installing Dialup Networking
For this you will need your Windows 95/98 CD or disks that you received with the computer. If you do not have the CD or floppy disks contact the vendor of the computer or call Microsoft. If you have the Windows 95/98 CD or disks then follow the instructions below
- Click on Start, go to Settings, and go to Control Panel.
- Double click Add/Remove Programs.
- Click on the Windows Setup.
- In the Components Select Communications and then Click on Details.
- Check the box beside Dialup Networking and then click OK.
- Click on OK again in the previous window.
- When asked to insert the Windows 95/98 CD into the CD-ROM or disk with a number (e.g. like disk 12) please do so. If not asked for a CD or floppy; you are fine.
- You have successfully installed dialup networking. We willnow add the necessary components for Dialup Networking.
Step C - Making a New Connection
- Double click on My Computer and then Double click on Dialup Networking.
- Double click on Make New Connection.
- In the new screen, type in a name by which you would like to refer to the connection eg. iRock.
- In the same screen, select the modem that you have on the Computer if it is not automatically displayed in the drop down list and click on Next.
- In the new screen for the Phone number do not put anything in the Area Code text box. In the Telephone Number text box type in the local number you use to connect to iRock 0198331305. Once you have entered your local access number click on Next.
In the next window Click on Finish. You should now see the Connection you just created in the Dialup Networking window. Select the connection you just created by clicking it once and then go to File and then Create Shortcut.
- It will tell you that it could not create a shortcut and ask you if you want to place the shortcut on the Desktop instead, Click on Yes.
- You have now successfully created a Shortcut to IROCK on your desktop.
- While in Dial up Networking, click once on your new Irock Connection Icon to highlight.
- Then click on File and select Properties.
- In the connection properties click on the Server types tab.
At the bottom of the windows, there should be a section saying Allowed Network Protocols. Uncheck NetBEUI and IPX/SPX Compatible and check TCP/IP. - Click on OK.
- Click on Start, then Settings, then Control Panel then Iinternet Options. In the Address Bar type in http://www.irock.com.au then click Apply then OK.
- We have now successfully created and configured the connection.
- Restart Computer
Once restarted double click on the irock icon on the desktop and the following window should appear:
Type in your username and password and click Connect.
You are now ready to browse the internet!
